This social justice art program is for teens interested in learning how to use their creativity for social change all while developing 21st Century Skills essential to educational success and beyond.
Learn the art of critical thinking in a step by step format adapted for teens.
Engage in creative thinking by exploring creative expression with various art techniques like mixed media, painting, and collage from artists as well as poetry and other forms of creative writing.
Explore the connection between food justice (offered during the summer) and critical and creative thinking with fresh and organic plant based food all carefully designed to fuel the creative process.
Collaborate with other teens on an art project to bring awareness to a social justice issue.
Communicate what you've learned to the community in a culminating event/presentation that sparks awareness and dialogue.
Build self-confidence and how to persevere through complex lessons via the development of a growth-mindset.
Accepting Teens for Fall TEENERGY NOW
TEENERY starts November 1st at Westlake Tower (corner of 5th and Olive) on the 11th floor from 4pm to 6pm. High school students of color interested in writing, art and/or social justice are encouraged to attend. In this program you will learn more about TEENERGY Social Justice Arts Program, the school to prison pipeline, and create art for social change. Dinner will be provided. 10 teens will be accepted into the 3 week program and will receive a $200 stipend for participating at the conclusion of the program.
